Celebration of Van Mahotsava 2018

Van Mohotsava, a festival of planting trees, is held each year at Darshan Academy Delhi to add green plant life to the enivornment and to remind the students of their role in conservation of the planet. Planting trees is one of the best ways to prevent global warming and reduce pollution. This year the festival was held from 1st to 14th August, 2018 and many saplings were planted on and around the school premises. Various activities on the theme, such as poster making, poem recitation, street play etc., were enjoyed by the students. The students also presented a musical ballet with the message “Save Trees”. Teachers, Ms. Aradhana and Ms. Sonali suggested children plant a sapling on their birthdays to commemorate their special day and thus leave a legacy of a green earth for the next generations. Different types of herbal plants like neem and curry were planted by the school principal, Mr. A. David. He spoke of the uses of herbal plants in our daily life. One hundred plants were planted by the students as part of their SEWA program and also two hundred saplings were distributed to be planted. The festival of trees will be a cherished memory for many of the students and the impact felt for years to come.

Happy Independence Day

Darshan Academy students and staff celebrated India’s Independence Day on August 15, 2018. The celebrations began with the unfurling of the National Flag. The schools were decorated in the tri-colours of the flag, saffron, white, and green. Students presented cultural programs with songs and mesmerizing dances, beautifully describing the joy of freedom in its true spirit. Guests, principal, teachers and students expressed their views in speeches on the significance of the day. Through role plays students depicted various topics, for example, the value of education in one’s life and how literacy empowers individuals, families and communities. The programs concluded with a vote of thanks and happy faces.

Music Competition

Hazur Week of Human Unity was celebrated in Darshan Academy Ludhiana 23 – 28 July 2018. On 27th July an Inter-House Music Competition was organized in the school. Sixteen students from four houses participated in it enthusiastically presenting spiritual songs which left everyone spell bound. Mr. GD Jalota and Ms. Harpreet Kaur were the judges of the event. Mr. H.D Sama Manager, Mr. Balbir , Mr. Hira and Mr. Chotta Singh were also present to grace the occasion. The event also provided a platform for fifty children from a slum area to present a ‘Shabad Gayan‘ on the stage as a guest appearance. They were thrilled to be part of the celebration and were served with refreshments thereafter organized by the students of class X and XII as their community service project. Winners were felicitated with certificates and trophies by school manager, LMC members and the Principal. Principal Ms. Rajdeep Kaur Aulakh appreciated the participants for their efforts and congratulated the winners.

Save Wild Life, Save the Tigers and Save the Environment Campaign

On 11th August, Darshan Academy, Pune organized an event to promote the vegetarian way of life as well as launched a campaign entitled “Save the Wildlife, Save the Tigers and Save the Environment.” Held in the school auditorium, tiny tots of Pre-Primary Wing beautifully promoted the campaign through various dance performances, skits and speeches. They sweetly promoted the vegetarian diet as to not to kill animals for the sake of food. Mrs. Rangoli Saxena, Principal, Darshan Academy , Pune, Mr. Gurbux Kundnani , Chief Guest, and Mr. Girish Gandhi, Special Guest, began the program with the lighting of the lamp. An enactment was performed by the UKG students portraying how tigers should not be disturbed in their natural habitat. The program concluded with speeches by Mrs. Rangoli Saxena, Mr. Girish Gandhi, and Mr Gurbux Kundnani who expressed their view on the importance of saving the ecosystem and wild life. The event was greatly appreciated by all and the parents enjoyed seeing their children perform and share such valuable information.

Creating Generations of Peacemakers

Darshan Academy believes in creating generations of peacemakers and strives to prepare its students with ethical values, leadership qualities and skills to become compassionate human beings. In honor of the birth anniversary of Hazur Baba Sawan Singh Ji Maharaj, Darshan Academy celebrated the 27th July paying homage to this great soul; the epitome of love. The morning assembly had a special theme beginning with a welcome Ghazal sung by students of grade VII. Next came a Qawwali followed by a role play on a story written by Hazur. In conclusion, Ms. Aarti Vohra, the program coordinator; Ms. Anjali Keshwani, middle wing coordinator and the school Principal, Mr. A. David, each presented wonderful heart-felt talks. The morning program ended with a beautiful, peaceful sight of the entire school sitting together for meditation. In the afternoon (after school hours) teachers heard Ms. Poonam Ghai (Spiritual Curriculum National Coordinator), facilitate a heart-touching session on the “Power of Prayer.
